This month is the scheduled Ken Burns special "The National Parks". PBS channel thirteen has been asking viewers to send in stories, photos and movies or videos of their experiences at the National Parks. I sent in a story of an incident that happened in 2006 at Sentinel Point in Yosemite National Park. I was trying to duplicate a photo I had taken in 1971 of Eleanor sitting in front of a boulder on Sentinel Dome. Eleanor could no longer walk the trail she did in 1971. So I was forced to go it alone and try to duplicate the photo. Some people on the dome helped me out by taking photos of me in Eleanor's place at the historic boulder site. It soon became apparent that word had spread all over the dome about the guy trying to duplicate the 35 year old "Eleanor and Boulder" photo. As a result, total strangers started greeting Eleanor at the trail head. Trying to duplicate photos taken in prior trips is something I always do for fun. However, this idea attracted the interest of two producers at Thirteen.org.
We now have an appointment for next Wednesday for a meeting in New York City with the producers at Thirteen.org to be interviewed (on camera I presume) about some of our stories. They also want me to bring along my photos, 8mm movies and videos of our visits to the National Parks. They plan on doing a half hour special featuring stories, photos and video of people from the New York area in the National Parks. I don't know if we will get any air time on the special. I'm just happy they are interested.
Im supposed to speak to another producer at Thirteen.org tomorrow. She is especially interested in the video I made called "Her Song".
