Untours Cafe

This was a day for further exploration as we begin to find ourselves more at home with the bus system and to realize where we are in the scheme of things that is Rome.  We decided to go to the Pantheon early.  What an incredibly stunning structure, both inside and out.  We had recently watched some TV about the construction so were able to appreciate it even more. It is sooo beautiful, and since it had rained earlier, we saw water pooled on the floor from where it ran into the oculus.
Then we toured the Doria Pamphli gallery on Via Corso.  I bought a photo pass for four E, and it was well worth it.  The galleries, halls, sculpture, and paintings were fabulous, and the place was not too crowded, even though the weather was threatening.  Actually, it hardly rained a drop all day, but it sure did look like it wanted to!  We thoroughly enjoyed our visit there.  I had not booked the Borghese gallery before we left the US, and although you can call them every morning to see about openings, we didn't want to stress about it.  After all, we have to have a reason to return to Rome for a third time! Then we set off for the Trevi fountain.  That is such an awesome sight, I cannot believe I saw it.  It brought tears to my eyes...
After tossing in the obligatory coin, we found the ingredients for Pasta alla Amatriciana, a recipe which Mary kindly included in our paperwork upon arrival.  We came home and cooked it and it was so good!  Taking that recipe home with me, even though the taste of food here is different.  Must be the kind of pigs, the things they eat, the curing methods...whatever it is, you have to come here to taste the real thing.  Nothing else is like it...
