Market day in Buonconvento and a day to do laundry. A nice little laundromat here--bring your own one euro and 50 cent euro coins, tho--no change machines. We went to the local street market and bought big fava beans to cook for Easter and I stopped in a shop called Susy and bought another scarf. Then we bought gas,(the car is NOT a diesel, it takes unleaded gas, that's a whole story by itself!) came home and dumped our purchases off and headed for Montepulciano.
Montepulciano was a beautiful hill town, of course I am partial to Montalcino (and its wines) but we had a good time walking throught the town. I found the copper smith I was looking for--Bottega del Rame--fine hand crafted copper pots and molds. I bought a beautiful olive oil container with spout--I will treasure it from now on. (There is a web site if you google it) The town and the parking was packed. We walked as much as we wanted (those hills are STEEP) and then came back to Altesino, just across the road to schedule a tour for tomorrow. We met up with John and Sandy there, and agreed to meet in the solarium at Pogiarellino for wine and snacks. Before that, however, we met up with Anna and purchased her excellent Brunello (20e) and also her Rosso. Her Brunello is the best we've had so far.
We had porchetta and cheeses and tarallini in the solarium with the fabulous view of Montalcino in the distance--white sheep grazing below and vines everywhere. We both would come back here with no hesitation. However, you do need to know this--somewhere back toward Buonconvento there is a farm or a bar or something that played loud music Saturday and Sunday night--it may have been just holiday partying or customary, but if you hate that sort of thing you need to know...
