Sunday Sept 29
Today was originally scheduled to be a day without much too, but since the weather forecast for Monday is rain, the Amalfi company I had booked a Capri cruise with emailed and wanted to know if we could change the cruise from Monday to today. We agreed, sounded like a great idea! So at 9:45 we were at the pier in Amalfi for the cruise. Limited to 12 people, on a nice boat, with a great captain, we set off on our adventure du jour.
We visited the Emerald Grotto, blue cave, grotto of the gulls, pandora's grotto, so many beautiful caves and grottoes. And we went all up and down the coastline from Maori to Capri. We pulled into many for photo ops, and of course lots of photo ops at the Faraglione (stacks) rocks at Capri. When we got to Capri, we rode the funicular up to Capri proper. It was such a moosh of people that it wasn't much fun. Imagine that the port area was less full of people than the town! It was true! So we came down, shopped a bit, and then thankfully got back on the boat. Truly the best parts were coming and going. It is a ride, though--we left at 10 and got back at around 6. Spent about three hours in Capri and that was plenty. The fun was the boat ride! And that we got back the instant that a few drops of rain fell in Amalfi! We talked to lots of nice folks on the trip and it was fun, worth the money. And if it does rain tomorrow, well worth it!
We shopped again for bread and fruit, then came home and made an amazing lemon risotto with pancetta and zuchinni, along with salad. (if you have read any of my other blog entries you know we are risotto fans!) so now we are enjoying our pictures, watching nonsense tv (there are English BBC channels here, but we're not watching them--we are on vacation from it all!) and winding down. Tomorrow we shall see what Italy brings to us. Maybe a trip to Maori? It looked an attractive little town from our cruise. On Tuesday we go to Pompeii with a company that Rosa booked for us, and Wednesday morning we leave for Rome. Time passes too quickly!
