6. Pere Lachaise Cemetary: Believe it or not, this is a beautiful and interesting place to stroll, with incredibly ornate tombstones of the famous and not. You will visit Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde, Frederic Chopin, Heloise & Peter Abelard, and of course, the Lizard King himself, Jim Morison. To make a fascinating journey, take the #69 cross town bus, as described in Rick Steves' Paris, traveling through upscale, commercial, and work-a-day neighborhoods full of life and color.

5. Window Shopping: The entire city is prime for this activity. My favorite area extends from Saint Sulpice Church to Au Bon Marche department store. In front of the store is a charming pocket park, with beautiful landscaping and a children's play yard. It's fun to watch the little ones at play with watchful au pairs and grand-meres looking on.
4. View of/from Sacre Coeur Cathedral: Perched high on Montmartre, this building is iconic of the northern edge of Paris. From its steps, you are treated to a panoramic view of the entire city. I also like seeing it from below in the city, reassuring me I'm really in my favorite city!

3. Cluny Museum: Also known as the Musee du Moyen Age, you don't have to be a fan of medieval days to appreciate this gem. It is one of the oldest buildings standing in Paris; a bishop's palace built over the Roman baths. Many exquisite objects are on display (as well as the excavations of the baths), but the breathtaking highlight is the Lady and the Unicorn tapestry series.
2. Pont des Arts: This wooden, pedestrians-only bridge spans the Seine from the Louvre to the Institut de France on the Left Bank. Views both up and downriver are sublime. It is a magic place at sunset.

1. Patisseries! Edible works of art are offered for sale at little shops all over. TLC goes into the making of every delicious treat. I love to buy fresh pain au chocolat for an indulgent breakfast, a beautiful macaron or crispy meringue for an afternoon treat. The ritual of greeting the owner, deciding on a treat, and leaving with a cheery "Merci, au revoir" warms my heart every time!
