We learned while visiting Media PA that a year ago, it was recognized as the “First Fair Trade Town in the USA.” Of course, we had to make some purchases at the “Ten Thousand Villages” store. The gifts were received, and became even more important when my niece and grand-niece learned that others would be supported via the purchases. The following week, in a local newspaper an article was spotted that indicated a nearby town had taken steps in order to bring a “Ten Thousand Villages” store to their locale. I’ve scanned the article in Microsoft Word for you to peruse. It outlines the steps that town members took in order to make this happen. May others learn from this small town’s “brainstorm.”
The article had appeared in the Star-Ledger, Friday, July 6, 2007 Edition; pp. 49-50.
