Gabe and I are enjoying day seven of our Andalusia untour. We are feeling very much at home at our cortijo, "la Cruz Blanca", just outside of the town of Carcabuey. The cortijo is very rural, surrounded by mountains and olive groves. It is very quiet and peaceful - the perfect place to relax after a day of hiking or sightseeing. We love sitting on the patio with a glass of¨"tinto de verano" (red wine with orange Fanta) just about any time of day! There is a jasmine vine nearby that sends out its delicious scent, the moon rises over the ridge in the evenings, and perhaps in the morning the two boars that live on the farm will come for a visit. They wag their tails just like dogs when they see us - they know we´ll throw them some acorns or some figs from the trees next to the patio.
Does is sound amazing? Because it is. We couldn´t be happier!
Despite how out-of-the-way it is, the cortijo is so conveniently located. Just 10 minutes in the car takes us to the town of Priego, where we can shop, have tapas, and access the internet. Thirty minutes puts us on the main highway to just about everywhere we´d like to go. We spent the weekend in Sevilla, and yesterday we took a beautiful mountainous drive to Ronda. It doesn´t seem possible, but the bridge over the gorge impressed me even more this time!
This afternoon for lunch we´ll have a gazpacho that I made using ingredients from the farm at our cortijo - tomatoes, onion, peppers, and olive oil! The rest of the ingredients were purchased at the Sunday market in Priego. We are really enjoying all the fresh, local ingredients! If only cooking at home were this much fun...
Hopefully before too long you´ll be able to view some photos on Gabe´s page.
