Are you going to Bavaria and Munich during Oktoberfest? Then prepare ahead and you will have a really great time.
The first thing you really must do is get a room reservation in Munich. You don’t want to miss out on all the evening fun by having to return to your Castle by…

Wow, more than 30 new members in 24 hours!
Can I make a suggestion? Now that there is a bunch of us. let's start using the rating system for videos and photos. I hesitated to suggest it, because I think there are so many good things, and I want everyone to feel appreciated. But I think , now that we are a bigger group, if would be a real service if you rated photos you LOVE highly. That way, people who have a limited amount of time for browsing, can view the ones that everybody seems…

What can I say....there is a cornucopia of talent in this group! I just put a bunch of new pictures on our main page (over on the right hand side) because our new members just keep wow-ing me with the quality of photos.
PS; Don't forget to title and tag your photos! (I think that gorgeous one of Pete's is Vienna, but without a title, you can't be sure.

We're back from France... recovering from jet-lag, sorting through several thousand digital pictures (35mm,APS and Movies too!) and trying to re-integrate into life in the States! Our intergenerational trip was an unqualified success and we all decided (except for the 8 year old who wanted to go home to play with his Legos) that we needed several more weeks to continue to soak up the Parisian life-style. More details later.

El Kover and her husband Bill, some well-loved Untourists, recently spent a couple of days in Media, PA where our offices are. We had invited them to come to witness The Today Show filming (which we need not discuss in this space.) Rather today, I want to thank El for being such an observant and thoughtful person. On her first visit to our house she noticed the clothesline
running from our second floor balcony. Later she showed up with two…

Our summer trip to the USA in RI is about to end. We are always ambivalent about going “home” to CH. It, as always, has been a busy time.
Children and grandchildren all like to come to Newport, and we are always ready to see these precious people in our lives. It is always a joy to see these kids and grandkids and to hear how their lives are changing. There are members of Barbara's family that always are ready for some fun times. We get to experience the 24/7… Continue

Check out Johanna Thornton's pictures in the left hand column -- I think all the places she goes look like they've just had a bath! Much shinier than my pictures.
Lots of new people joined over the past few days and an astonishing amount of them are talented writers and photographers. You can browse through their pages by going to the Members tab OR you can explore our NEW TAB called NEW STUFF.
Some of you may have seen the video we posted last week about RSS feeds and why…

We have been going to Meiringen with Untours for so many years, we can't remember how long. When we were stranded in Zurich because of 9/11, we were invited back rent free until we could arrange transport to the USA. This was sort of an extra week vacation clouded by worries about home and really crummy weather. But we were eternally grateful to Untours for the hospitality. This summer one of our "kids" is coming along with daughter in law and grandson. We can't wait to show them our…

Dear Café Companions,
There’s been a lot going on this week at the Untours café! Here are just a few highlights from some interesting blog post and discussions in the past few days.
Pete wrote (and rescued from accidental deletion) a blog post with very nice pictures about his
Untour to Paris.
Marlene Hench, whose love of photography is legendary here at Untours, has written about how she…

Question of the Day(from the Forum): (from a Cafe Member)
" On "My Page" in the left column there is a box marked "RSS". In it it says
"Please click Edit to specify the RSS feed for this box"
Can someone explain to me what a RSS feed is and what I can do with this box?
I'm clueless!"
My Answer: This short , cute video in the link below is the BEST explanation of RSS feeds I ever saw. The RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication --…

I don't know if it is possible, and if it IS possible, can my addiction be Provence? All I know is that when I am home I long to be in certain spots -- and that longing for particular places can be pretty hard to ignore. And I am pretty sure I am not alone in this yearning for a particular spot.
It is different than a general
wanderlust -- the desire to go somewhere -- anywhere. It is a deep kinship and sense of hunger for one…

Wow, we just have a few members (compared to what we will have when we open it to our larger circle) and already there are so many interesting things going on. Here are just a FEW of the things you can go visit new this week:
- Pete Haggart jumped in feet first to start blogging (Yay Pete! despite some technical goblins at first...check out his trip log from Spain.) Of course, Vance was blogging before we knew what a blog was and he is continuing to give us his inimitable…

Trip Log 1: Ticino, Switzerland, Fall 2006
September 20, Wednesday ARRIVAL
Our morning arrival at Zurich went very smoothly, and with the assistance of Untours staff, we were soon on the direct train to Locarno. On arrival, we were met by our local Untours staff and delivered to our apartment by taxi. A very stress-free beginning, well appreciated after an overnight flight. …
