- What is your favorite place in Europe so far?

- Greece.....(but I am going back to Paris this summer...got kinda hooked on Paris)
- Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
- I will always love the Greutert's place in Sachslen (the Swiss Heartland) (Chalet Berit, Studio Albert and Elizabeth) because they hosted the Untours office and I lived there for many years, but if you take the love of that family out of the picture...
Usually staff don't stay in our best places..we save them for the customers...but Le Chiuse or any of Anna Ginotti's in Tuscany might be my favorite of those I have seen.
I know The RIGHT Vacation Rental apartments much better, since I manage that part. My favorites: the Breton Chateau in Brittany, the Katalagari Suites in Crete, the House of the Painter in Dordogne, Apartment Amalia in Ljubljana, and the Penthouses in Barcelona.
- Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
- I paint watercolor and I love to understand other cultures -- their differences and similarities. I love to walk and bike
- When you upload photos to Untours Cafe, you are also giving Untours permission to use the photos in their promotional material (with credit to you)
- hmmm...will have to think about that one --- I almost got struck by lightning in an Alpine field once, but that wasn't so funny.
- Which Untours have you already done?
- All but Venice, Umbria, Greece
- What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
- Go. Don't worry. Don't overplan. But enjoy anticipating.
- What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
- Tough choice: a tie between Ticino, Holland and Provence....also LOVED Spain. I am intrigued by the fact that almost every staff person who has gone to the Greek Untour says it is their favorite..it's one of the fiew I haven't doen yet.

Turquoise Coast Cruise
A month ago, I set out on a one-week cruise of Turkey's southwest coast and the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. It was even better than I'd expected.
I had the good fortune to sail with Untourists Ted and Rose McKenna who were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. We were joined by an amiable group of 16 Australians, 2 other Americans, 2 women from Spain, and 1 gentleman from Germany. By the end of the week, we felt like one big family.

Italy 2012
We're departing for Italy tomorrow. Though we are not traveling with Untours this time, we are staying in rental apartments. Since our trip will include the Untours cities of Rome, Florence, and Venice, I'm going to try to blog about it as we go.
I'm getting so sleep deprived getting everything ready both at home and at work that I'm just going to crash tomorrow on the plane.
My next update should be from Turin ...

Going to Greece
My wife and I have just returned from two week stay in Nafplio, Greece. Excellent apartment and local host.
More importantly, I would like to assure those considering the trip that Greece IS SAFE.
We traveled extensively in the Peloponnesse and at no time did we fell at all uncomfortable. The people we met were as accomadating as we could have possibly wished. Athens is a big city and requires the same kind of awareness as a trip to Philadelphia so go and enjoy.

Saturday - September 10
Today we are off to Florence. We got to the car rental place in Chiusi without any problems and turned in the car. The manager gave us a ride to the train station and we settled in for about a 45 minute wait. We hadn't eaten breakfast so we had some apple croissants and ice tea for me and cappuccino for Dick. - Flickr is good site for most of Idylchat people. The problem will be with someone like me who does this professionally, has his own site and has copyright concerns. For me, I am more comfortable with putting some pictures on the Untours site and allowing you to link back to my site as you wish. I am not sure I would upload to Flickr. But that is just me.
I am leaving tomorrow for Santa Fe, so I may not get to uploading any pictures, as they are all on my imaging machine at home. I will try to upload some travel stuff as I take images next week. The other tasks you want us to do, I can handle remotely from Santa Fe.

- So far I am storing on my computer, but plan to try using a website whenever my next trip is, so it will be easier for family/friends to see my photos while I am gone. I took my iBook last fall and downloaded the photos nearly every night to iPhoto, sorting, naming etc, and found that was a good way to keep current and remember names of places. But sharing them was difficult through my remote server and Locarno was short on hot spots.
