Profile Information

What is your favorite place in Europe so far?
We have to put Paris at the top of our list and Leiden, The Netherlands second. We loved the time we spent in each of them.
Where would you most like to go next?
Prague
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
I think our favorite apartment was the SS Quattro in Rome.
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
museums and architecture
When you upload photos to Untours Cafe, you are also giving Untours permission to use the photos in their promotional material (with credit to you)
We had been traveling on the trains in Holland when we took an older train (one with individual compartments). At our stop the doors did not open and since they were painted red (meaning danger or do not touch around here) we didn't attempt to open them. Consequently, we missed our stop. When we went back to our compartment two young Dutch helped us, but laughed the whole time.
Which Untours have you already done?
Holland; Paris, Rome, Florence Sampler
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Go as often as you can.
What is your favorite Untour? (so far)
Holland

UNTOURS – Florence

September 23

Upon arrival at the Florence train station we were met by Mary Jane Poole and Marco, our driver. Mary Jane rode with us to our apartment, took us in and waited while Gabriella, the apartment representative, showed us around. After Gabriella left, we realized there was no phone in the apartment, an important item for us. We decided to use the Untours cell phone and a phone card from a Tobacco shop easily located everywhere in Italy by a large “ T”… Continue

UNTOUR- Rome - 2009

September 16

After leaving Paris for our second Untour week, we arrived in Rome having flown Alitalia (a very pleasant experience). We were met at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci airport by our driver holding a sign with our name on it. He was very quiet on our drive into the city, just pointing out one or two things to us. When we reached our apartment at Via dei Santissimi Quattro we were greeted by Marilina and her helper. They educated us on the apartment and… Continue

UNTOUR, 2009

Paris

On September 8, 2009, at 4:30 p.m. we left the Orlando airport, arrived in Atlanta, then left Atlanta at 8:40 p.m. arriving at Charles de Gaulle airport at 11:30 a.m. We were met at arrivals by our Untours reps., Joanna and Jane. We were the first to arrive, but everyone came shortly after. We met three couples, Elaine and Harvey; Michelle and Rod; and Barb and Pat. We all rode together to our respective apartments.

On arrival Don and I took a… Continue

Dutch Untour

HOLLAND, Tuesday, August 14, 2007

It’s hard to know where to start. We had wanted to go to Holland on an Untour for many years, and we weren’t disappointed. After leaving Orlando at 5:25 p.m. we arrived at London Gatwick Airport to change planes to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport arriving at 11:40 a.m. We were met at the “Meeting Place” by our taxi driver who delivered us (after a little confusion as to the address) to our apartment at Hogewoerd 144 in Leiden. We stayed in the Jan Steen… Continue

Hi: I responded to your comment about the Alaska cruise on my page, but in case you don't see it........The cruise will be fine. The land part of our tour was the part with so many lines and waiting. You can either do your own thing or socialize while on the ship. And the excursions will keep you busy. Some of them allow exploring on your own; others lock you in time wise. Sometimes, you can do alternative excursions on your own. In Juneau, while my husband went flight fly fishing, I did an excursion on my own rather than taking one offered by the ship. Also, if you aren't please with your dinner tablemates, there are usually other dining alternatives. We found that going to the more informal, self serve dining room worked better for us in terms of timing with excursions and only ate dinner in the formal dining room the first and last night. The food was the same as the formal dining room in the informal one, there was more of a choice, we didn't have to worry about dressing after a full day on shore, and we could sit wherever we wanted.

Thank you. My husband Dick and I are taking a sampler in August, Paris and Holland. Reading about what others have experienced is a wonderful preparation for the trip.

It's so hard to decide which sampler to choose! We can only take two weeks away from work or would have tried one with three cities. We were in Rome in 1999 and it is an awesome place. We found small restaurants on side streets where no English was spoken to have the best atmosphere and food. I know that your trip will be full of wonderful experiences.
As for Holland...since we have only six full days there, it is hard to decide what trips to take by train. I know that we will want to go to Amsterdam and Delft...do you have any advice as to other places to visit?

We leave for Paris also in Sept. Looks like we will be there around the same time you will be; however, we are doing it on our own this time, not with Untours.
