"Don, TSA locks are fine here in the US.  But they are not something I would use in Europe traveling.  We had an "incident" in France when using those locks  TSA is a US gov't agency, NOT a European/US agency..  If…"

Seville--Day 7 and 8

We had a lovely drive to Seville, I know I keep harping about the roads (and we did get lost a time or two) but they are nice, well marked, and in good repair.  We passed through areas where we saw cork oak trees-some looked like they had just been harvested.  Once we got into Seville, we did get seriously lost, and ended up in a residents only zone, where we got a ticket.  (It came later in the mail after we got home, along with a notice from Hertz--they photo your license plate.  Even Hertz charges an administrative fee to let them have the info about you.  So, all in all that was not a great thing.  But, we did opt to drive...part of the price you pay.)Once we found our parking lot, we had the novel experience of waiting in line for a spot.  They had resident's parking there as well as public parking, so we just sat and waited in line until enough people had exited, then we got a space. The parking garages are not the gi-normous things we are used to in the States.  Because it was…See More

"Hi Bill, Sorry didn't see your post earlier, have been too busy with holidays! My husband and I stayed at Donna Onesta in Venice, it was well worth the extra supplement, on a side canal with balcony and beautiful views. Close to everything, we…"

Days 1-3 Paris Untour 2014

Days 1-3 Paris Untour 2014Well we have recovered and are back to the usual days, and it is getting much colder out, so I finally have time to do a report about our trip to Paris. It's a big city! I had no time, or inclination, to blog after each day as I have done in the past, but I did make notes and took 674 pictures and a few movies, so here goes:We arrived at CDG at 6 AM, due to a schedule change by our airline. It made our arrival inconvenient, as Untours checkout time is 9 AM. Thank goodness it wasn't raining or cold, because we ended up having to wait until 10:30 AM to park our suitcases in the apartment and waited till 12:30 for it to be cleaned. This meant that from 8-10:30, we sat in Republique square, with suitcases (because I mean, who wants to haul cases around after you on a cobblestone walk anyway?? And many places on the main square were not even open!) We felt this was poor planning on the part of Untours and the rep, there just has to be something else other than put…See More

Last day in Amalfi!

Today was an early day--we met our Pompeii guide at Amalfi main bus stop at 8AM.  Rosa had recommended this company -Sunland.it--and it worked beautifully.  We took the Pompeii express tour.  Alessandra, our guide, was perfectly organized, very informative, and fun.  We had headsets furnished by the company for the 2.5 hour tour, and it was about the most any of us could take as it was very hot, dry, and dusty.  We visited a cameo factory at the beginning, right at the entrance to Pompeii, but were not pressured to buy and they had nice, clean restrooms.  Due to cruise ships being docked in Naples, it was unbelievably crowded, but Alessandra had it all down, buying a group ticket, skipping the lines, and generally marshaling 32 of us around in a lively fashion.  We covered a lot of ground and saw many of the high points of Pompeii.  Thanks to Rosa again for the good recommendation and reservations.  It was also, I think, a bargain at 35E per person.  The ride up to Pompeii takes about…See More

Nerja, Malaga, and home again

Today was our final full day in Spain, so we checked out of our wonderful apartment, bid Jaun a fond farewell, and drove down to the Costa del Sol to Nerja.  This was a town with a sea view we had dreamed about, and we had read about paella on the beach in Nerja at a beach shack called Ayo's. …

Today we took off on a lengthy journey, but one we really wanted to do regardless of the weather.  We went to Ronda, Spain's home of bullfighting and the town which is split by lovely bridges over a steep gorge. It is indeed on of the loveliest towns we saw, even in gray weather.  The old town has a charm unlike any other, and the parks and outlooks, as well as the hikes, were soooo much fun!  We drove into town and parked in a lot that was well marked, with signage easy to understand about…

Alcala la Real

Today proved to be the first day of a rainy weekend--it forced us to cancel our room in Gibraltar and reschedule our plans. We were a little disappointed, but knew there was so much to see closer to home.  And the day began with sunshine, as you will see.  The next day, Sunday, was our planned trip to Ronda.  We ended up doing that on Monday the 12th--it just would not quit raining once it started!  Oh well, it's still vacation!

Today we visited Alcala la Real, which was highly…

The Alhambra

We purchased tickets online for the Alhambra, although we could easily have purchased them on our prior day in Granada www.alhambradegranada.org/en/ ;.  But we wanted to arrive early and chose that time block and we had an early palace tour.  What gardens!  What beauty!  What views!  We drove there, parked in the main parking lot adjacent to the ticket office and…
