Toss-up between Eastern Europe and the Far East. After visiting Japan for the first time recently, I want to learn more about that part of the world. But I've also always wanted to visit the Czech Republic, since one of my friends defected from their in the 80s and last I heard, he's returned there.
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
Leiden is a great base for touring Holland. I'm looking forward to other Untours, but definitely plan to return one day....
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
Motorcycles, photography -- and good food! I also try to take a tour of the local drink specialty -- wine, whisky, whiskey, beer, sake, whatever!
Which Untours have you already done?
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Pack light if they have washer/dryers in the units. Also, be sure to visit the local markets for food -- you have a kitchen, use it! More than anything else, though, immerse yourself in your temporary home....it's the best part of travel.
Welcome. If you like Holland and beer, you should definitely check out Sallyimp's videos....she does a wonderful job of documenting both.
Let us know if yo need any assistance navigating the Cafe. (I am sending you a friend request (we always advise people on the Café to accept friendrequests only from people they know, so this is a heads up that it is on its way)
Thanks for thepictires of Leiden. I don't know why but I think I may migrate there if I survive my wife. I think Europe generally (Holland especiallly) is friendlier to old people than is the US. One who can know longer drive a car is lkely to become isolated in our country. But I see old people fully present in public life in Leiden. I remember seeing on old woman who was coming out of a market , carrying, with some difficulty a package of goods she had purchased; as a matter of fact she was having some difficuty walking. But she hobbled over to her parked bike, mounted it, stuggling a little. Then she rode off.
Hi Paul . . . Sally and I will do the Leiden Untour next April, and enjoyed seeing your comments about Leiden & good photos . . . I will do my part to uphold your tradition of comparing the Dutch beers!
