I was with an artist group and painting a man's house in Montefalco & he came out to chat and bring me an umberella. I speak French and he could as well so we chatted a while & he offered his place for my friend & me to put our equipment while we went to lunch. We drank wine, etc. at lunch. The man came out and brought us some lemoncello to drink after which we were painting rather loosely. It turned out to be a good painting.
The following year I went to paint on his street and picked a doorway a few houses up the street. Later I saw him and another man take a huge jug of wine with a wheelbarrow into the house I was painting. I went over to talk to him and he remembered me. (We had already been to lunch, this time with champagne, wine and lemoncello). He seemed happy to see me so went into his house and returned with a tray of glasses and a bottle of amaretto and a bottle of lemoncello. What else could I do but drink them as well, (along with my friends)? Such hospitality! I got his name and address and, after I returned home, I took photos of both paintings and sent them to him. At Christmas I received a postcard withi a photo of his street along with a nice greeting from him.
Which Untours have you already done?
Umbria two times
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
Do it!! We have traveled a lot in Europe, especiall Italy, but others with less familiarity seem comfortable after the Untours briefing.
Hi Jennie, A belated Welcome to the Untours Cafe! I hope you'll have as much fun here as I do. I love your story of the man who befriends artists! Take your time and explore some of the photos, and videos. One of the most useful spots on the Cafe can be found by clicking the Destination tab. Say, for example, you were considering visiting Provence. Why not post a question or start a discussion in the Provence Destination and get the answer from experienced Untourists. That's also where you can find all the content on the cafe (photos, videos, blogs) related to that destination.
If you run into any problems or have any question, you can send me a message or ask Kim. We're here to help!

Thanks so much for your prompt & enthusiastic response; very illuminating. The issue for us is that we were a bit spoiled by being in the village of Monpazier last spring--& if you ever want to try the Dordogne I'd recommend it highly.
If we're not having an energetic day, one of us could enjoy the village & not have to worry about being too far away from the stay-at-home.
Doesn't look like we're going to be able to replicate that in Provence, sadly.
Our time frame is not flexible this year...oh, well.
Thanks again & happy trails!
