Sommersdorf gearing up to celebrate 800-year anniversary

During the first weekend of July (July 3-6, 2008), Sommersdorf, the locale of our Bavarian Untour, will hold a medieval festival to commemorate its 800-year anniversary. The program features concerts, lectures, a medieval market, banquets, knights camps and knights fights. One of the many highlights will be the Knights Dinner in the Castle's Gothic Hall held on July 4. The Castle Untour host, Dr. Baron Manfred von Crailsheim, is one of the key organizers of the event. Six Untourists will have… Continue

My maternal Grandparents were German. Their last name was Bruder which translates to "brother". When they immigrated to the U.S.A. it was from Austria-Hungary. I don't remember the name of the town. I believe it was in what used to be Czechoslovakia.

Your photo of "Bleeding Hearts" immediately captured my attention. How come? It's a traditional Lithuanian flower to have in your garden, as well as Rue. When my older sister married and purchased a home, my mother presented her with a cutting. After we purchased property, my sister gave me a cutting. Now, I await my turn to pass on the "Bleeding Heart" to another Lithuanian in our family. Rue flourishes readily here and there in our backyard. We had so much that I had to start sharing, not only with family, but with friends.
Thoroughly enjoyed viewing your photo slideshow.

P.S. It was a delight to meet you during our visit to Media, and the Untours office.

My Paternal Grandparents were Hungarian. I've always wanted to visit the hometown of my ancestors east of Budapest and north of Satoraljaujhely. So I guess I should add Prague, Vienna, Budapest to my list of possible Untours. In 1973 we spent a few days in Vienna with a dinner trip across the border to Bratislava. That was part of our very first trip to Europe. We grabbed a taxi back to our hotel at one point. The driver started talking to me in German. To my surprise and a shock to Eleanor, I talked back to him in German. I had taken German in high school and college, but never really used it until that taxi driver brought it back to the surface. Back in the States the language part of my brain went back into hibernation.

Hello Cathrin,
I use a panasonix lumix DMC-TZ4. It's a small one, but the pictures look great. I use it for the videos also. It's easier to use than my DV camera because it takes less space and is more discreet...

Hi Cathrin,
I look forward to seeing your photos in a few days, after you've had a chance to get back to them and add some titles. When I've posted photos I know it takes a long time, especially when I also try to add a good descriptive sentence or two!
