Booked Venice, Provence and Paris for Sept/Oct 2008.
Tell us about one of your favorite places to stay on an Untour. Do you have a favorite host? Apartment? Village?
Loved Italy. Stayed 2 weeks in Tuscany and then 2 weeks in Umbria. Enjoyed Siena, Florence, Montalcino, Pienza, San Gimignano, Volterra, Spoleto, Trevi, Orvieto, Pisa and Rome. Can't pick a favorite.
Do you have any special interests or hobbies that you follow when you travel?
No. We enjoy the people, food and wine. We like the fact the accommodation's are always good and we rent a car so we can travel easily for day trips.
Which Untours have you already done?
Italy - Tuscany and Umbria. Spain for a month. New Zealand with Home at First. North and South Islands for 6 weeks. Scotland, Ireland and England with Home at First for 6 weeks. Probably will do Salzburg,Prague and Budapest in 2009.
What advice would you give others considering an Untour?
We have requested many catalogs for friends. Others have booked with you on our recommendation.
Wow, Carol, it's an honor to have such a seasoned Untourist in the Cafe!
I hope you'll have as much fun here as I do. Take your time and explore some of the photos, and videos. One of the most useful spots on the Cafe can be found by clicking the Destination tab. For example, maybe you have considered visiting Provence. you can post a question or start a discussion in the Provence Forum. People love to recommend their favorite apartment, village, restaurant, etc.
Of course since you have been on Untours, you can also join those destinations where you have the expertise --Tuscany & Umbria and soon Venice , Provence & Paris; newcomers will be grateful to have an experienced Untourist to ask frank questions.
We would love to have you keep the Cafe in mind on your upcoming Untour. If you look at Bill Kover's page, it begins to give you an idea how you can share your trip in lots of ways. The Cafe members love hearing "on-site" updates and it would be interesting for your family & friends.
If you run into any problems or have any question, you can send me a message or ask my colleagues, Powen, Sue, & Kim. We're here to help!
Hi there! Honestly, the best eating place is probably at your farm. Their dinners go on and on, almost everything is local, and the quality is excellent; just pace yourself. Beyond that, our on-site guide book has some good suggestions for Trapani (Ai Lumi, Al Solito Posto and Trattoria Fontana) and Erice (La Pentolaccia and Monte San Giuliano). See the book for details. Also Giacomo and the farm staff can give you good suggestions locally. Enjoy the fabulous fresh veg and seafood and look for fish couscous--a local favorite!
